“After interviewing 4 different contractors, we chose Jeff Thranow of Costa Bella Builders for a gut reno of a 3000-square-foot house. They put on a new roof; coordinated mold/asbestos remediation; moved a ton of interior walls to connect the living room/kitchen and create an office; re-did the entire kitchen; moved a bathroom and remodeled 2 more; updated the plumbing and HVAC; took out 2 hideous fireplaces and added a gas insert; installed engineered flooring on the first floor; added an AWESOME Harry Potter closet under the stairs... and right when they thought they were almost finished, we asked them to rip off all the miles of deteriorating cedar shakes and replace them with Hardie siding, and add a big second story deck. 😀 Jeff and his son-in-law Vitt, who was in charge of the job once it started, were fantastic to work with, as were their subs. They listened to our opinions and concerns, gave excellent feedback and advice, and helped move us along in the decision-making process when we were stalling. Since we live an hour away from the house, prompt and clear communication was a must -- and both Jeff and Vitt were super responsive to all of our email, texts, and phone calls, and cheerfully worked with our challenging schedules. They also were careful to minimize the impact on our neighbors as much as possible, especially in terms of a inconvenient parking situation, which I really appreciated. Most importantly, their work was on time, on budget (most of the few overages that occurred were because of choices we made; their bids and change orders were accurate and well-explained), and very very high quality. There was only one glitch with Title 9, and they fixed it immediately. We are absolutely thrilled with this house -- the transformation is unbelievable. This is supposedly our beach house, but it's so fabulous that everyone in the family wants to move to Aptos. We highly recommend Jeff, Vitt, and the whole team at Costa Bella. It was a pleasure working with them.

In fact, the first experience was so positive, we used them a second time. Excellent communication during the entire process. Finished on time and on budget. “Where do I even begin to express my appreciation for Costa Bella Builders? We were in a unique situation of needing a home addition very quickly, as we found out we were going to have twins and really needed to add more room to our small house before they were born. Through a neighbor, we were connected to the team at CBB and from the beginning, we sensed a great connection with them. Our two big needs from a contractor: stick their deadlines and communicate well with us, as we already had a toddler and very busy lives and we were in crazy season trying to prepare ourselves to add two more little lives to the family. After talking with CBB and four other contractors, CBB was the only team that was confident they could complete our project on time. It seem too good to be true that the first people we talked to were the ones we ended up going with, but looking back, it was the best decision we could’ve made. From the beginning, Vit and Jeff were amazing to work with, helping us to figure out the best layout for our addition, while working alongside of the architect and designer that we wanted to use. They were a great combination of being able to dream about possibilities while also sticking to our limited budget. Every meeting we had with them felt wonderful; we felt listened to, supported, and excited about what was ahead. Then in the midst of getting our permits and preparing for construction, I ended up in the hospital with preterm labor at 27 weeks with our twins. We were set to begin construction two weeks after I ended up in the hospital, and with a lesser crew, we would’ve never gone forward with the remodel. But because we trusted CBB so much, we ended up deciding to continue on with the remodel throughout the craziness of being in the hospital (which ended up being an eight week stay) and possibly having our babies very early. That’s how much we trusted them to do well and to follow through on what we had planned. We honestly can’t believe the blessing this team was for us during that time, as they worked so hard and diligently on our project, allowing some of our family members to do on site checks with them while we were at the hospital, and being flexible with us throughout all the chaos of that time period. Once construction began, each week they hit their deadlines, communicated any issues that came up and were flexible with changes and the inevitable issues that come up during projects like this. They also do very good work: their subcontractors are excellent, the construction they do is quality and the outcome of our remodel is absolutely beautiful. Our Interior designer sister-in-law and architect brother-in-law helped us with this project and when it was all over, they said it was an absolute delight to work with Vit and the team; they said it’s very rare to find a team as talented and communicative as CBB. We honestly just couldn’t believe the blessing we had with CBB- that they would listen to us, communicate well and have our best in mind throughout the project meant the world. I have told so many people this and I mean it, we absolutely loved our contractors and I thank God for them on a regular basis. I don’t think many people could say the same thing about their experience with contractors, as most people end up frustrated and feeling not listened to, or somehow even manipulated. We never felt this; we only have gratitude for them, and each day that we live in our newly remodeled home, we are thankful for all the work they did for us and the way they treated us. They removed two walls, expanded the area into the garage and added a hall closet while simultaneously moving the existing laundry room into the reclaimed garage space. They also redid the existing fireplace and added wood flooring to the family room and stairs. The project was completed on schedule and with no major hiccups. The team encountered structural issues (no surprise considering the previous remodels of the 50 year old house) that had to be overcome and Vitt was able to bring in the extra crew to assess the issue and solve the issues while complying with the city inspectors. We recently completed a full kitchen remodel, and we could not have been happier with Costa Bella Builders and our Project Manager, Vittorio Castelli. The project was on budget, on schedule (very fast!), very clean, and all of the crew and subs were trustworthy, talented and friendly. Our house is 24 years old, we are the original owners, and this was our first major remodel in the home. We had used Schmitz Woodworks previously for built-in bookshelves and a built-in cabinet in our dining room so we wanted our kitchen cabinets to follow the same design. Dave Schmitz drew up the design for the kitchen, basically keeping the same footprint (We highly recommend Schmitz Woodworks for custom cabinets.) The kitchen was gutted except for the hardwood floors. We did not have a designer. We relied heavily on Houzz and Pinterest, and Vitt accompanied us to the Appliance, Plumbing, Countertop, and Tile stores which was super helpful and reassuring. We actually went away two times during the remodel thanks to Vitt’s encouragement and we are so glad we did! There were absolutely no problems and no trust issues and it sure made the time fly faster. Highly recommend it! Vitt has a great personality, excellent eye for design, is calm, very well organized, and responds so quickly to texts. We really appreciated his level of communication as to what and when to expect things to happen. My husband was very worried that there would be damage to the rest of the house during the construction and we were very happy with the way the crew covered the floors and shelves and at the end of construction, the clean up crew did a great job. From demolition to first meal prep in new kitchen was less than 5 weeks! We are so happy and highly highly recommend Costa Bella Builders. Thank you so much!!!
“We recently completed a remodel on our home in the Pleasure Point neighborhood that had the scope of a new home, with the challenges of a remodel. I cannot say enough positive things about the process of working with Jeff, Vitt their employees and subcontractors. We had done a remodel on our home previously and the challenges of that process had left us a bit unsure of taking on this task again. From our very first meeting with Jeff he put our concerns at ease, and even provided a referral to an architect to help us really design a home that worked for our family. A project of this scope is bound to have some challenges but throughout the entire project I knew that Costa Bella and I were on the same side and that we had the exact same goal in mind to build the house that we had planned from design forward. Vitt was in constant contact with me as the project moved forward and worked tirelessly to meet a firm date when we needed to be back in our home. We have been back in our home for about 4 months now, and Vitt and Jeff have been on top of any and all of the few small things that needed to be addressed as we settled in. I would have zero reservations on recommending Costa Bella for any project.

“If you are looking for a rock bottom price and don’t mind the hassles and delays that usually go along with that, don’t call these guys. However, if you are looking for quality, professional service and results and are willing to pay a fair price for them, then this is the outfit for you. I have used them three times now, for a kitchen remodel, bath remodel, and cabinets. You will get a project schedule telling you what will happen each week, and they will stick to it. The guys show up on time and clean their workspace before they leave. Vitt has a firm grip on all the details and if he says he will do something, it will be done right away. I’ve had some bad experiences with contractors in the past and always felt like I had to be watching closely to be sure things are done right and the accounting is fair. After my first experience with Costa Bella, I know I can sign the contract and then relax and let them to do their jobs, knowing I will be happy with the result.
“I can not think of enough superlatives to describe my experiences with Costa Bella Builders. We hired this company to take a raw piece of land and build our dream house. Vitt, the project manager is a delight to work with. I never had a text or message go unanswered. All were addressed the same day (often within the same hour) when I had a concern or question. We were "promised" a 10 month timeline for completion of a large project (well, septic, road, driveway etc.). Almost to the day, we moved into our beautiful house. In a day when projects are often delayed and over budget, we did not experience that common problem. We will be building a guest house in the near future and I look forward to working with them again.

“Costa Bella just finished a kitchen remodel for us in late June, 2015. Everybody you talk to about doing a remodel and dealing with contractors says the same thing right? It's going to cost more and take longer than you were told. Well my experience with Costa Bella was pleasantly none of that. They were 99% done to the day they estimated it would take and it cost what the bid was. There were some extra costs that were all my choice, reasonable and I'm glad we tacked on the extra requests that were wise to do while the kitchen was open and exposed. And they finished the other tiny detail 1% (that always remains) with no fuss and in timely fashion. They did not just collect the last check and disappear. In fact, Vitt was just here this morning to adjust some cabinet doors that had shifted slightly and were misaligned. Jeff (the owner) spent an amazing amount of time with us just giving us tips and getting a true idea of what we wanted in the process of just gathering info to quote us a bid. He actually came back and spent more time with us just to make sure he heard us right. Then he came and spent another chunk of time explaining in detail the bid. We felt we were in very sure hands before we even selected them as our contractor. He and Vitt have a great eye for detail and design also and made helpful suggestions. Every sub they used was top rate, their in-house crew were personable and wonderful. We were kept abreast of progress and schedules. Jeff and Vitt were always available via email, text and phone. They were great at hand holding when we needed it (it was our first experience with a large remodel). Everyone that has seen our kitchen so far have been blown away by how fantastic it looks and what a nice job the contractor did. This includes some friends in the construction business. When I asked our kitchen designer to suggest 3 contractors, top tier, middle grade and economy model, she said Costa Bella was one of the best if not the best but of course they would cost more. To our very pleasant surprise, they were able to give a very competitive bid and for the level of service and quality they gave us, I think they were a fantastic bargain. We wouldn't hesitate at all to recommend them, in fact we already have.
“This is now our third large project with CB since we used them first in 2012. Kitchen, large deck and outdoor entertainment structure and master bath. Each time the project planning, actual work and follow up was terrific. The people employed by CB make the difference. Never, not once, have we had an employee of CB or a sub on our jobs that wasn't capable and pleasant. “I echo all the positive reviews on this site. I was introduced to Jeff Thranow through my insurance company back in the 1980s when a hot water leak damaged my downstairs ceiling. Jeff responded quickly and did a great job making everything look as if nothing had ever happened. Since then, my homeowners’ association (on my recommendation) has used him and Costa Bella Builders for numerous projects, including deck design and replacements, hand rail replacements, replaced siding, and various other projects. He has worked in my townhouse most recently through two important projects, the complete remodeling of my kitchen (in 2012) and my master bathroom (October 2014). The Costa Bella construction and design process works like a well-oiled wheel. It begins with strong design and idea consultation, detailed and accurate cost estimates, timely construction (on time!), and very high quality workmanship. A project begins with Jeff who offers you his expertise and experience in terms of design, materials, and details of the project. My favorite part of a Costa Bella project is shopping with Jeff. He steers me toward the highest quality materials within my price range and does not tempt me with options that are out of my range. Once the project timeline is set, Vitt and the crew take over. Communication is constant and you are consulted on every decision and kept informed of the timing of each stage of the project. Workers are neat, respectful of your living space, and keep the work contained to the agreed upon areas. “You won't find a better general contractor out there! I bought a dated and dark 1,500 square foot office building in Capitola. They transformed it into a light and welcoming professional office for me. Vitt is not only an incredibly good contractor, he has a talent for design. He helped me pick out doors, lights, and flooring. Everyone at Costa Bella was a pleasure to work with. Costa Bella made the experience exceed my wildest expectations.

Actually finished project early! When does that ever happen for contractors. I cannot say enough great things about this team of contractors. In September of 2018, we decided to do an addition to our house, originally thinking we wanted to add a second story. When we talked to Costa Bella Builders, they considered our budget and project and presented another idea. We ended up staying on one level and broke ground on our new master bedroom and bath, office and laundry room in April 2019. It was finished August 2019, a month early. They stayed within our budget and our 1960's home is now insulated, updated and feels brand new with a smart design and plenty of storage even for our small space. They walked us through every phase from design to permits to build and completion. It could not have gone smoother.
“I was still unsure about these wood floors until this morning when I came down to discover a dried splotch of red wine in the kitchen after our 4th of July celebration last night. I grabbed a damp cloth, wiped the splotch and it cleaned up completely! I was ecstatic!
